A Stella Story

Stella is finally here! She was exactly 40 weeks when she was born on November 3rd. She is absolutely the most beautiful baby I have ever seen. She was born at 3:27pm- weighed 7.93 ounces and is 20.5 inches long.

Now the fun part... Reliving the day for you!

The first hours
We went to the hospital at 530am to check in. As soon as we got there they immediately started an IV. I hate needles and she had to do it twice! The story of my life! (I think I have honestly only been pricked a handful of times just once.) After that I went over my birth plan with them. Who is allowed in the room? Nobody- except D. Are you going to want an epidural? Probably not. And more questions along those lines...

Here comes the Pitocin- 7:30-9:30A
Pitocin= Mean ass drug that torchers you and makes your baby come out faster. Even trade... Right? So they started the pitocin drip and literally within minutes I felt contractions. My doctor came in and broke my water. That warm water felt good for about 10 seconds. Then I was disgusted! Also within the hour I was saying when in the hell is the epidural coming. My nurse- " You said probably not so we didn't order you one. We will call the pharmacy and get the anaesthesiologist up here but it will be about 30 minutes to an hour." WTF!! I might have said that out loud. Can't remember. SO for 30 minutes I stared at the screen and watched each time a contraction was coming- bared down- and silently prayed for someone to shoot me. =)

Epidural is in- 9:30A
Life is beautiful.

Who knew it took this long? 9:30-2:00P
Where is Stella? My cervix was taking its time in thinning out so my dilation process was only about 4cm around 2pm. However also around that time I was 90% effaced. The goal is obviously to be 100%. Tick tock. Tick tock. During this time D read me my books, we tried to nap, we watched TV, and we talked. I can honestly say I was very nice to him and not mean like we both anticipated me to be =)

Hold the phone... You said WHAT?! 3:00P
My nurse came in and we were all praying for me to be at least 7 cm dilated. We were all joking around and then she went to check. She looked at me with HUGE eyes and said would you like to meet your daughter in the next 30 minutes? You are 10+ cm dilated. WOOHOOO!!!! Then she had me do one practice push and screamed- omg don't push again. She is right there!

Let the Chaos begin! 3:05P
My nurse frantically calls my doctor who is at her office 10 minutes away and tells her I am beyond ready to go. My doctor said she would be there shortly. She must've raced over there because she was there by 3:20. She started getting her gear on and finally around 3:24 she said push. Push 1- Stella's head is out. Push 2- One shoulder is out. Push 3- the rest of Stella is out. Total labor time pushing= 3 minutes and 30 seconds. That is correct!! NO tearing, nothing! Everyone was shocked and amazed. AND then we all thought Darrell was going to pass out. He just kept saying I didn't think it would be that fast. He was definitely in shock. Then he cut the cord- I almost threw up (the cord is blue- so gross!) The rest from there is history... So I thought!

Hello Hematoma- 4:00pm
I won't go into detail. Just know that this development is very uncomfortable and took a little bit away from my glory story above =)

TODAY
So what's been happening since then? Learning =) D and I are learning new things about Stella, ourselves, and each other every day. We are so in love with our new family I can't even say in words how I feel. I am so thankful to finally have her in our life and even at this moment wonder what I did without her. She has definitely filled my heart with more love than ones deserves.

So I will have more pictures soon. Please stay tuned to the blog for the adventures of Stella K!
