A Gracie Story

Gracie Louise was born on Friday July 29, 2011 at 2:42 pm. She weighed 7lbs and 13 ounces and is 19 3/4in long! She has a full head of hair and she looks like.... ME!!!

Since I relived the day for Stella's birth in my blog, I knew I would have to do it for Gracie as well! It was a very similar process except this time I knew what to expect- but of course forgot about the not so fun parts. Alright let's relive!

We arrived at the hospital around 5:30am. Right when we checked into the room they drew blood and blew the second vein (after pricking me 2 times to find that vein.) Luckily the blood was already drawn by the time that vein went kaput.

6am-9am
(This is not an exaggeration. This is the ridiculous truth.)
I waited for 3 hours for a nurse to find a vein so they can began an IV. I was pricked over 7 times- they blew over 3 veins. Finally they called the anesthesiologist to come and find a vein. Needless to say he found it first try and by that time my OBGYN was pissed because now we were about 2 hours behind and I looked like a freaking pin cushion completely covered in bruises.

9am-1230p
So at this point without the pitocin I was 5cm dilated and 90% effaced. The pitocin drip was started and holy hell it took about 7 minutes and I was feeling the contractions. They were brutal. I did not remember them hurting like that. I was pretty sure I was dying.

My doctor was scared once she broke my water I would go into labor very quickly after that so they wanted my epidural in first then break my water. Fine by me! I was like let's get this bad boy in ASAP because I think I could possibly die from the pain. (YES, I am a wimp. But contractions HURT!)

1230p-230p
Gracie and I were moving along pretty quickly. In no time I was 100% effaced and I was dilating just as quick. By 130p I believe I was 100% effaced and 7cm dilated. D also called in the nurse at that point and said I'm ready to push. Once my doctor got there she shut me down. But reassured me it would be soon. It's so weird because with Stella I don't remember feeling a whole lot of pressure telling me when it was go time- but with Gracie I was feeling it around 1230 and on.

230p-242p
At 230p I told D to go get the nurse again because I wasn't the one pushing anymore. I could feel Gracie pushing and I was D-O-N-E by this point. I was going to push with or without help from my doctor! The nurse came in, checked- and said yes let's call your doctor you are 10cm!

So about 235 my doctor walks in and told me to do 1 practice push. She then yelled stop (deja vu from Stella) and said this is going to be a pretty quick birth. Just a reminder- when I was ready to push for Stella it took about 3 1/2 minutes and 3 pushes for her to come out. So this time with Gracie it took 4 pushes and 5 minutes! It was pretty dang quick. Gracie is here!!!

Gracie is the sweetest baby. She is quite the sleeper (far different from her sister) and such a cuddler. She looks like me and I am not just saying that! It has been confirmed by my family who is always all too thrilled and eager to take D's side and constantly remind me the pretty Stella looks like her daddy (which I disagree and think she looks like me too!) So for them to agree is MAJOR! Gracie is the perfect fit for our family and we love her sooo much. WE are all so happy, ecstatic, overjoyed, and any other words to describe happy that she is finally here and a part of our lives. Even Stella is happy! (She did tell us that Gracie was going to go bye- bye a couple of times... but I think Gracie will charm her way into Stella's life!)
